Christian Education:
The Board of Christian Education seeks new ways to educate our congregation
and the community about the love of Jesus Christ and what it means to
be a Christian in today's world. We do this through a variety of ways.
Sunday
School at Second
Join
us for a time of Bible study and fellowship as we strive toward a closer
walk with God.
Sunday Schools
Classes meet at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday. Classes are available for all
ages. These are the classes being offered:
Epiphany
Class:
This is a discussion-oriented class focused on relating scripture to
everyday life. Currently, the basis for our weekly study are 4 related
biblical readings from the lectionary that are published in the church
bulletin each week. Team teaching insures that an interesting mix of
perspectives lead the wide-ranging class discussions. Singles and couples
of all ages are equally welcome in a class that flourishes with various
outlooks, building a Christian small group community that gives us a
place to make friends within the church. An added bonus is a weekly
snack!
Children's
Class:
A class for school aged children is lead by Mrs. Crump and Mrs. Byrd,
two women with over 30 years combined experienced working with children
in a church setting. They lead our children in a closer relationship
with God.
The
Open Door Class:
The Open Door Sunday School Class follows the traditional American Baptist
adult Sunday School curriculum, which focuses on applying the Holy Scriptures
to our time. Class members are given a copy of the lesson book so they
can study each lesson in advance. Class sessions are built around a
lively discussion led by experienced teachers. The teachers are Deacon
Ralph Holmes, the Rev. Christine E. Holcomb, and Deacon Henry J. Holcomb.
Deacon Holmes and the Holcombs take turns in the lead role.
Children's Church
During
our worship service, after the Children's Prayer, children ages up to
10 years have this opportunity for focused ministry. They color, sing
songs, play games, have snacks, and have fun, all while learning about
Jesus Christ. The program instills Christian values and teaches the
Word ina manner suitable for their attention span.
Nursery Church
A nursery is provided for children ages 1-3 during the Sunday worship
service.
Bible Studies
