Hope and Freedom Missions Trip to Italy
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our
congregation is a growing community of believers. Our membership has
increased by 40% (135 new members) in the last seven years, and God
has blessed us to reach out to more and more people. Our mission is
to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to all of God's people. We are
an integrated church serving an integrated community. We are situated
in the Germantown/Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia, which has been designated
by a national publication as one of the five best integrated neighborhoods
in America.

Our
congregation strives to reflect this diversity. We are a congregation
of African, European, Hispanic, Asian and Native American descent. We
are proud of our rich history of serving this community since 1866.
We are meeting the needs of a new generation with a dynamic youth group,
JAM (Jesus And Me). We are attracting families of all shapes and sizes,
single parents, blended familes, divorced, widowed, and everything in
between. We invite you to worship with us, and join us as we build up
the body of Christ here at the corner of Germantown and Upsal.

We have up graded our audio system by adding wireless ASSISTIVE LISTENING DEVICES to aid those who are hearing impaired. If you need to use one of the devices while attending any of our services, please go to the back of the sanctuary where the audio cabinet is located and see the person or persons that are attending to the audio system for that day. They will fit you with a device and show you how to use it. If at all possible, especially on Sunday mornings, it would be good to get to church early before the services start. Thank you. Rev. Ernest Flores has written a book, Tempted To Leave the Cross, published by Judson Press. It is a collection of sermons preached at Second Baptist over the last five years that focuses on the cross of Christ.

Or you can just come to Second Baptist one Sunday and get it there. It will be in bookstores soon. Here are some reviews on the book:
"You will be blessed by this book. You will be engaged by this minister’s brilliant mind. You will be challenged by his messages. As a disciple of Jesus, you will come away from the reading of this text with tools to take up the Cross of Jesus and to follow the one who leads us to life more abundant and to life eternal!" —from the Foreword by Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.,Senior Pastor, Trinity United Church of Christ, Chicago, Illinois |
