The Rev. Ernest R. Flores is a dynamic preacher who has been pastor at the Second Baptist Church of Germantown since 1997. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California in History, and a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary.   Prior to coming to Second Baptist, he served churches in New Jersey, and California, preached as an evangelist across the United States and in Mexico, and also taught on the faculties of Azusa Pacific University and Latin American Bible Institute. In Autumn, 2007, Judson Press published a book of Rev. Flores’ sermons called, “Tempted To Leave The Cross.”  In addition to the pastorate, he is currently serving as president of the Philadelphia Baptist Association (PBA) Ministers Council, a member of the PBA Commission on the Ministry, and the PBA Board of Directors, and teaches for Eastern University in the Campolo School for Social Change and for Palmer Theological Seminary in the Eastern School of Christian Ministry.  He has previously served on the board of directors for the Northwest Interfaith Movement, been a Little League coach at Mt. Airy Little League, and  is well known by local youth for playing hoops on the church parking lot before giving bible studies.

It has been said of Rev. Flores that he is diversity personified.  He was raised in his father’s Pentecostal church, educated at a Presbyterian seminary, before becoming an American Baptist pastor.  He attended public schools K-12, and a private university and seminary. He is Hispanic, was mentored at a predominantly African American church, his first pastoral call was to a predominantly European American congregation, and he currently serves one of the best integrated churches in the country.

Rev. Flores and his wife Deborah, a kindergarten teacher at Community Partnership School in North Philadelphia, live in the parsonage of Second Baptist Church with their two daughters, Armida age 11, and Rachel age 9.
